Thanks to its mountain lifts, Alpe dâHuez unfolds like a mountain with many levels. In a single day, you can stroll along the shores of Lake Besson, cross striking alpine landscapes, and finish surrounded by the breathtaking panorama from Pic Blanc. Itâs a unique way to experience the mountains without being an experienced hiker or athlete, while making the most of the natural beauty of the Grandes Rousses massif.

đĄ One altitude, one adventure!
In summer, Alpe dâHuezâs mountain lifts do more than save you timeâthey open the door to a mountain of many faces. In just a few minutes, you can travel from lush alpine meadows to crystal-clear mountain lakes, then on to the dramatic mineral landscapes of the high-altitude Grandes Rousses massif.
đŠ At 1,800 m: Ease into the mountains
Perched at 1,800 metres, Alpe dâHuez is the perfect starting point for enjoying the mountains. To cool off, head to the resortâs swimming pools or the splash park for younger visitors. Thrill-seekers can opt for the alpine coaster, tubing, or a mountain kart ride. The resort is easy to explore thanks to its free shuttle buses and mountain lifts. Whether on foot or by mountain bike, you can quickly reach the first panoramic trails or explore the Bike Parkâs 300 km of marked routes.

đ§ At 2,100 m: Must-see alpine lakes
The Grandes Rousses gondola takes you to one of the most beautiful walking areas in the resort, offering spectacular views over the Oisans Valley. From the Pic Blanc mid-station, the Lakes Trail (Lac Faucille, Lac Noir, Lac Besson and Lac Carrelet) is an easy walk through alpine lakes, marmots and wild blueberry bushes. Swimming is prohibited, however, to help protect these fragile ecosystems. Stop at Chalet du Lac Besson to enjoy a well-deserved slice of blueberry tart. The nearby cliffs are also the perfect place to discover rock climbing with Alpe dâHuez’s mountain guides. For the truly adventurous, itâs even possible to spend a night on a portaledge suspended 70 metres above the ground.

đȘ» At 2,700 m: Between sky and mountains
As you continue your ascent, the scenery becomes unmistakably alpine. Lush mountain pastures give way to the rugged mineral landscapes of the Grandes Rousses massif and the glacial lakes of the Plateau des Cavalles. Just below the lift station, Lac Blanc reveals its striking turquoise waters, their colour shifting with the light. A walking trail leads to the lakeshore through the Alpine Garden, where visitors can discover mountain flora in a fun and educational way. Before heading back down, stop at the Café Alpin, a charming coffee cart set up in a vintage Piaggio three-wheeler, and enjoy a delicious drink with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

â At 3,330 m: Pic Blanc, the rooftop of Alpe dâHuez
The journey culminates at the summit of Pic Blanc, reached by cable car. Awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide, this spectacular viewpoint offers one of the widest panoramas in the French Alps. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Ăcrins, La Meije, Mont Blanc and far beyond. Even in summer, itâs worth bringing a warm layer. At this altitude, youâre truly in a high-mountain environment.
