Quality and Commitments in Alpe d’Huez: Famille Plus, Destination d’Excellence and Flocon Vert

At Alpe d’Huez, quality is at the heart of your holiday

A warm welcome, services tailored to everyone’s needs and a mountain environment worth protecting: at Alpe d’Huez, delivering a high-quality visitor experience is a daily commitment. Through its dedication to families, continuous improvement of its services and the sustainable development of the local area, the resort makes visitor satisfaction a top priority.

From the very first stages of planning your holiday to the memories you take home with you, a successful stay often comes down to the little things. Information that is easy to find, personalised advice, activities suited to children, or simply the pleasure of discovering an unspoilt mountain environment… These are the details that make all the difference.

At Alpe d’Huez, quality goes far beyond the welcome visitors receive. It is part of a comprehensive approach involving tourism professionals, destination partners and local stakeholders.

This commitment is reflected in three complementary initiatives: Famille Plus, Destination d’Excellence and Flocon Vert. Each offers a different approach to meeting visitors’ expectations, improving practices and preparing for the future of our mountain environment.

Famille Plus: holidays designed for young and old alike

At Alpe d’Huez, holidays are all about enjoying time together! Since May 2013, the resort has held the Famille Plus label, recognising its commitment to providing a welcoming environment for families and children.

This label is based on six key commitments:

  • A personalised welcome for families, helping parents organise their stay.
  • Activities suited to all age groups, so everyone can find something they enjoy.
  • Family-friendly prices, allowing both children and adults to make the most of the activities on offer.
  • Experiences to enjoy together or separately, depending on everyone’s preferences and pace.
  • Accessible shops and services, making everyday life easier for families on holiday.
  • Professionals who are attentive to children’s needs and contribute to making them feel welcome and comfortable.

In practical terms, this commitment can be seen in the wide range of activities available, facilities specifically designed for children, services that make life easier for parents and support to help families make the right choices.

The resort also relies on a network of nearly 60 Famille Plus-certified partners across the accommodation, restaurant and leisure sectors. These professionals all share the same goal: to provide families with a warm welcome and services tailored to their needs.

Because a successful family holiday means being able to alternate between discovering new things, enjoying first sporting experiences, relaxing and creating shared memories, all with complete peace of mind.

Destination d’Excellence: continually improving the welcome and support we offer visitors

The quality of a holiday can also be measured by how easily everyone can organise their stay, find the information they need and make the most of the services available.

Created in 2024 to replace the former “Qualité Tourisme” label, the national Destination d’Excellence certification aims to strengthen the quality of France’s tourism offering. It applies in particular to accommodation providers, restaurants, leisure venues and tourist offices. It combines high standards in welcoming visitors and delivering services with an increased focus on environmental responsibility.

This initiative reflects a key priority for Alpe d’Huez: providing an increasingly seamless, accessible experience that meets visitors’ expectations.

This means offering clear and reliable information, personalised advice, greater consideration of individual needs and consistent attention to service quality throughout the stay.

Quality also depends on listening to visitors, understanding their expectations and continually improving the way things are done. Every piece of feedback is an opportunity to gain a better understanding of visitors’ needs and identify possible improvements.

Beyond the services themselves, the entire visitor experience is concerned: from planning a holiday and arriving at the resort to receiving support while discovering the destination.

This ambition is part of an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, with one goal in mind: making every stay even more enjoyable.

Flocon Vert: protecting the mountains and the people who bring them to life

The quality of the experience at Alpe d’Huez is inseparable from its natural surroundings. Its landscapes, natural areas, heritage and local community all contribute to the destination’s unique identity.

Protecting these assets is therefore a major priority, both for local residents and for visitors today and in the future.

With this in mind, Alpe d’Huez has embarked on the process of obtaining the Flocon Vert label, an initiative led by the Mountain Riders association. This certification supports mountain destinations seeking to move towards more sustainable tourism by taking environmental, social and economic factors into account.

An initial assessment of the local area, complemented by a carbon footprint analysis, helped identify several areas for action. Six working groups have been set up around key themes: local life, heritage, waste, resources, property owners and purchasing practices.

The aim is to bring together local stakeholders and develop practical improvement measures tailored to the specific challenges facing mountain destinations.

For visitors, this initiative is an invitation to discover the destination in a different way: enjoy natural areas while respecting their fragility, choose more sustainable means of transport whenever possible, reduce waste and discover the richness of local life and culture.

It is also a reminder that protecting the mountains is a shared responsibility, built on the commitment of tourism professionals, local residents and holidaymakers alike.

Because a high-quality holiday also means being able to enjoy an exceptional environment in a sustainable way.

A collective commitment to your satisfaction

Famille Plus, Destination d’Excellence and Flocon Vert approach quality from different perspectives, but they share the same ambition: to continually improve the visitor experience while taking into account both visitors’ expectations and the needs of the local area.

Welcoming, listening, supporting and improving: these principles are essential to creating successful holidays.

Quality relies on a collective effort. Accommodation providers, restaurateurs, shopkeepers, activity operators, Tourist Office teams and institutional partners all contribute, each in their own way, to the experience enjoyed by holidaymakers.

It also means adapting to changing expectations: families looking for practical services, visitors wanting to organise their stay more easily, and travellers who are increasingly mindful of the environmental impact of their holidays.

This shared commitment encourages the exchange of best practices, continuous service improvements and the development of solutions that are ever better suited to everyone’s needs.

Alpe d’Huez: a destination moving forward with you

In both winter and summer, Alpe d’Huez offers a wealth of experiences to enjoy: first skiing adventures with the family, hikes with breathtaking mountain views, opportunities to discover local heritage or simply moments of relaxation in the fresh mountain air.

Behind this diversity lies a shared ambition: to ensure that every visitor can make the most of their stay, feel genuinely welcome and leave with wonderful memories.

Our quality initiatives and commitment to more responsible tourism all contribute to this ambition. They encourage us to look beyond the services we provide today and work towards creating a destination that cares for its visitors, its residents and its natural environment.

Because the quality of your holiday is built into every little detail, Alpe d’Huez remains committed to welcoming you even better and protecting the mountains that bring us all together.

Now it’s your turn to come and discover, experience and share it!
