More and more places are embracing a “no kids” atmosphere. They highlight tranquility, silence, and an adults-only experience. In Alpe d’Huez, the vision is different. Here, generations aren’t separated — they’re brought together. For years, the resort has been committed to offering a warm welcome to both parents and their children. It provides suitable facilities, a wide range of activities, and services designed for all ages. Awarded the Famille Plus label, Alpe d’Huez focuses on shared enjoyment. It celebrates collective memories and intergenerational experiences. Rather than excluding younger guests, it chooses to include them.
❄️ Family winter activities in Alpe d’Huez

1- Have Fun on Our Playful Slopes ⛷️
As a family, in Alpe d’Huez, you experience much more than just skiing. With its 65 green and blue runs, the resort is perfect for getting started gently. Its real highlight? Fun zones like Marcel’s Farm, a favourite hideout for children. Here, they learn to glide through playful sets filled with amusing characters and funny animals. The adventure continues in the worlds of Roger and Jacques the Woodcutter. Their trails are full of surprises — whoops, tunnels, slaloms, bumps… Every run becomes a moment of pure fun. And a real source of pride to share together.

2- Visit the Ice Cave 🧊
For over 25 years, the ice cave of Alpe d’Huez has been transforming snow into a work of art. Located at an altitude of 2,700 metres, it features 120 metres of galleries and around thirty sculptures. The walk may be icy, but it’s full of magic. This year, the Vikings are gone — welcome to a frosty African safari. Young and old alike journey into the heart of an extraordinary white world. Every winter, the cave is rebuilt from scratch. A team of sculptors gives free rein to their imagination, turning snow into animals, characters and landscapes. The theme changes each year. It’s the perfect break between two runs.

3- A Magical Evening in an Igloo 🫕
At the end of the day, strap on your snowshoes for a small guided night hike to a real mountain igloo! Along the way, you’ll discover nature, laugh, chat… and once you arrive at your snowy “home,” it’s time for a well-deserved Savoyard fondue, enjoyed under cosy blankets in a warm, star-lit atmosphere.
If the sky is clear, you can even take a look at the constellations together — perfect for little explorers and curious grown-ups alike.
❄️ Family summer activities in Alpe d’Huez

1 – A Summer on the Farm 🐄
Last summer, Julie and Kevin Quattrocchi from La Ferme des Cimes had an incredible adventure in Alpe d’Huez. They spent the entire summer in the alpine pastures, caring for nearly 300 cows every day. Good news: they’re coming back this summer! Passionate about the mountains and pastoral life, they love sharing their daily routine. Families and curious visitors are welcome. On the agenda: meeting cows and heifers, discovering the work of a shepherd-cowherd, watching — and even trying — the milking, helping with feeding, learning more about breeds and their anatomy, and most importantly, tasting delicious products straight from the source. A nature-filled, gourmet, and 100% authentic experience to enjoy as a family.

2- Try downhill mountain biking 🚵♂️
Here, families and young riders discover a huge playground connecting eight villages: Auris-en-Oisans, Bourg-d’Oisans, Le Freney-d’Oisans, Vaujany, Villard-Reculas, Oz-en-Oisans, and Allemond, all linked by lifts adapted for mountain bikers. For a gentle start, six beginner-friendly routes (44 km in total!) let you learn to ride in the mountains without pressure, but with plenty of thrills. Banked turns, small jumps, big smiles — everyone progresses at their own pace. And to ride with confidence, the resort’s schools offer lessons and plenty of tips on riding, braking, turning… and, above all, having fun without fear!

3- Gorges de Sarenne: A refreshing and adventurous family escape 💦
From Alpe d’Huez, escaping into nature is easy: hop on the Huez Express (free!) and head to the Gorges de Sarenne. A lovely trail gently winds down into a sunlit woodland where a sparkling stream flows. Refreshment is guaranteed: dip your feet, close your eyes, and listen to the water sing… The more adventurous can cross the Pont Romain or continue to the Col de Sarenne, passing the remains of the old mill. Whether hiking or trail running, it’s the perfect spot for families: picnics by the water, makeshift huts, laughter, and a big breath of fresh mountain air. A dream place to recharge on a hot day!
