đ”đœ Learning downhill mountain biking
When you see the most adventurous thrill-seekers setting off in the Megavalanche, you may think downhill mountain biking is definitely not for you. But before tackling the most demanding routes, it is possible to ease into the sport gently, under the watchful eye and guidance of professionals. The resort has created a true learning area so that both young and old can discover downhill mountain biking with a smile and without fear:
- 44 km of âDiscoveryâ trails: Designed like beginner ski runs, these routes are wide, reassuring and extremely smooth.
- Learning while having fun: Here, you get used to your bike at your own pace. You learn how to brake accurately, how to take a banked turn, or how to get over a small obstacle, all in a safe environment.
- Support from the pros: MCF instructors and Alpe Mountain Bike offer introductory sessions (from age 4 upwards), where you learn the basics of riding technique. In just a few hours, children â and parents too â gain confidence and discover the joy of riding.
đĄ To save you carrying equipment, many shops in Alpe dâHuez offer bike hire by the day or by the week.

đ A mountain pasture immersion: discover the daily life of Julie and Kevin
This summer, escape to higher ground with Julie and Kevin Quattrocchi at La Ferme des Cimes. Looking after a herd of 300 cows, these passionate farmers open the doors to their daily life and let you discover the secrets of their work. Since last summer, the couple have had their own milk and cheese production. A wonderful initiative that allows visitors to enjoy authentic produce right at the source.
What is included in the visit:
- Learning how to milk
- Taking part in feeding the cows and heifers
- Discovering anatomy and the different mountain breeds
- Tasting the fruit of their work outdoors
A wonderfully immersive experience for families and lovers of local produce. Do not miss this delicious stop during your summer walks.
đĄ Their herd is protected by a patou, a livestock guardian dog. Be sure to adopt the correct behaviour when you are nearby.

đȘą Roping up for the first time
Give your teenagers (aged 12 and over) an unforgettable rite of passage. At 3,330 metres above sea level, setting off from Pic Blanc, introduce them to the high mountains. Guided by top mountain guides, they will discover walking roped together and the crunch of crampons on eternal ice. More than an activity, it is a life lesson: here, you learn solidarity, concentration and the pride of touching the sky.
After a 40-minute journey by lift to Pic Blanc, the highest point at 3,330 metres, it is time for a two-hour climb to Pic Bayle at 3,465 metres. Equipped with a helmet, harness, ice axe, fleece, gloves and crampons, and roped to a guide, the ascent presents no particular difficulty. It requires some commitment but remains entirely accessible. The panorama at the top is breathtaking: an uninterrupted 360° view over Mont Blanc, La Meije, the Vercors, the Chartreuse and the Aiguilles dâArves⊠Once at the summit, you want to stay. Once back down, you want to go again.
đĄ To continue the experience, nothing beats a sunset evening sitting on a portaledge (a platform fixed to the rock face) suspended against the mountainside. With a stunning view over the Rond des Lacs, you progress along a via ferrata before reaching the spot with your feet hanging in space. At the end of the evening, you close your eyes, take a breath and âlaunchâ yourself into the void for a 70-metre abseil descent.

đŒ The Alpine Garden: a sanctuary between sky and earth
Located in the heart of the Grandes Rousses massif, at the arrival point of the second section of the cable car at 2,700 metres above sea level, this garden is a true botanical miracle. Created around thirty years ago by the parks and gardens department, the Alpine Garden allows visitors to discover mountain flora in an educational and playful way. Following the Lac Blanc trail, walkers will find at their feet dozens of species such as Alpine pansy, mountain arnica, bog bilberry, bay clover and Alpine ladyâs mantle.
At an altitude where life seems impossible, this sanctuary offers a unique sensory walk where rare species display their colours against the grand panorama of the Ăcrins massif.
đĄ It is possible to walk all the way around Lac Blanc to its edge by following the marked path, and thus enjoy different viewpoints over the turquoise expanse, which offers a beautiful variety of blue shades depending on the altitude.
â Stop at the CafĂ© Alpin at 2,700 m for a gourmet drink served by an exceptional barista with a direct view over the lake.
